The garden activity of the teacher seminary, under the direction of the National Board of General Education, laid the emphasis on food production, functional education and the production of teaching aids. Increasingly more area was taken up by the cultivation of beneficial produce as well as sports and play areas. That period also saw the introduction of swings, monkey bars, gymnastics bars and other sports equipment in the school areas. A sports field was planned in the place of the Moirislampi pond, as a result of which the pond was filled in during the 1929–30 academic year.
